  1. Every day this cycle lane causes us problems. Living near to Reids Hotel we have to try and cross the footpath then the cycle lane to enter the traffic which is usually backed up as it’s now down to one lane. It’s not being used and is a total waste of time, money and very inconvenience to residents. If it was to help the environment then it’s not working as the traffic build up is very polluting and very expensive for those stuck in the traffic. I have no idea what will happen when an emergency vehicle needs to get through as we only have one lane going into Funchal. A car broke down a few weeks ago and the traffic was stopped. The car then moved into the drive of our condominium to allow the traffic to pass but it was difficult for us to get in or out of our home.

  2. As a bike rider I think it’s great! An electric bike on this island is a good way to go.

    1. I really hope this gets done properly. It’s time Funchal faced up to the need to cut down on city car journeys. The bus service is excellent and reasonably priced, but take a bicycle on most of the roads leading to the Lido area and you are dicing with death. Dedicated lanes like the one running past the Dorisol on the E.Monumental show what can be done. Looking forward to hiring an e bike when I’m next there.
