On this first day of 2022, 1001 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection were registered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which now accounts for 21,588 confirmed cases of covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. There are 27 imported cases and 974 of local transmission.
201 recovered cases were also identified, so that the Region now adds up to 4,822 active cases of the disease, of which 4,592 are of local transmission. Regarding the isolation of these active cases, there are 44 people admitted to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, three of them in the Intensive Care Unit dedicated to covid-19. Another 110 people are isolated in a dedicated hotel unit, with the rest remaining in their own accommodation. To date, the Region accounts for a total of 134 deaths associated with covid-19.
