Many of you have been asking where this is.

As you drive west past the Forum Shopping Center, it is just on the right hand side, a huge piece of empty land that has been almost empty for 20 years or more, and in front of the Monumental Green Park Apartments, who will all lose their views now I would imagine.

    1. Because its ugly and just another example of corruption and big families on the island that can do what they want with a few brown envelopes, and if you don’t believe me, prove me wrong….

      1. Corruption bla bla bla. Everything you don’t like or disagree is corruption.

        How can you say they are ugly if only one of the buildings has an actual project? All the others are just a simple render, not a the final architecture nor the actual project. Do you even read the news?

        What about the dozens of houses that lost their views when Monumental Green was built? Let me guess, because you have a friend that lives there that doesn’t count as “corruption”.

        1. Corruption is rife for a small island, fact, open your eyes, come live here and try and get things done without a ton of hoops to jump through.

    2. As a local, I actually don’t mind the modern design at all; the problem is that our housing market is already incredibly unaffordable for locals, and it’s ridiculous that most housing projects right now are expensive luxury apartments.

  2. Rule of thumb: 400 apartments cost €300 mln + profit = €1 mln. each – I do not believe these are appartments for Madeirans – who is going to buy them..?

    1. International investors, who are looking for the high end of the market, where Madeira is under-served vs many other European island destinations.

  3. Well. I am planning to relocate to Madeira after I sell my medical device company in Germany. But, believe me, I won’t move into such an equally ugly pile of concrete that I have here in Berlin at every second corner. It is changing the face of Madeira which loses it’s typical charme and character and makes it equally ugly as everywhwere in the World where “investors” have taken over. What a cultural crime!

    1. Well my advice to DocRJP and others you still have plenty places in Madeira that not been spoiled it is a question of finding the right place . Funchal is over rated .And cultural crime happens every were even were in Sintra centre were I live that the council did give plan permission for a home care facility to be built in old quinta that the house was restored but the building built in the grounds is like a concrete jail . I relay don’t understand how is possible such thing be built when all the other buildings fall the old design and fit in the area . And I’m not seeing the older people going living in a place that seems like a jail

  4. As a builder of posh rabbit hutches for rich morons, I don’t think the finishes in these flats are worth the asking price.

    Siemens is not a luxury brand of appliance. Gaggenau, Wolf, subzero and Miele are.

    Sanitary ware also looks on the cheap side.

    Looking at the floor plans, the flats are tiny, 75% of them will have a view of other flats and Sao Martinho is more like a council estate than a high end address.

    Dubai in Madeira is just another slick bit of marketing, with no substance to back it up.

  6. Heartbreaking, why not have kept a big green space, with a playground, outdoor gym, garden, water features etc? Something for families living there, not for tourists.
    And this black/dark grey has nothing to do with the rest of the neighbourhood. What a shame.

  7. The simple response is: ???, except for those living in the neighborhood who will suffer loss of quality of life. In the mid-term, luxury shopping and dining will come to the area, prices will raise….
