Four sea lions were born on the Desertas Islands, the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and the Environment announced today.
In a Facebook post, the conservancy recalls that the monk seal is the rarest in the world and a species considered endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
“It is a species that is much loved by all Madeirans, being part of our cultural identity”, according to the regional secretary, Rafaela Fernandes.
