British tourist sues easyJet after crash at hotel in Madeira

A British tourist is suing tour operator EasyJet after falling into the pool of a hotel on the island of Madeira.

According to the British newspaper The Mirror, the 61-year-old woman was on holiday in the Region with her husband on a full board basis, with the accommodation reservation being made through the operator. On one of the days, Pauline Taylor decided to try water aerobics classes in the hotel spa’s indoor pool, but after finishing the session, she slipped on the pool tiles and suffered serious injuries as a result of the fall, including a fracture of her eye socket, bone of the face and a wrist.

“The tiles were black and shiny, and they were full of water. I threw my flip-flops on the floor to put my feet in and the next thing I know I’m on the floor and there’s blood running down my face and my arm is in pain. I fell onto my left side and I must have reached out to catch my fall. I really don’t remember anything because it was so sudden. I knew there was something wrong with my eye because my vision was all spotty. I couldn’t get up from the ground and, therefore, I realized that something was wrong”, she explains in statements made to The Mirror, where she also mentions that despite being stunned by the fall, she did not faint.

After being taken to the emergency room in Madeira, the British woman when she returned to her country required more medical care, including having to undergo reconstructive surgery on her face and use a metal plate in her arm where she suffered a broken wrist.

“I couldn’t work and I didn’t want to go out because my face was so swollen. I spent all the summer months at home. I don’t have the same mobility as before and I’m still in a lot of pain. We think I now have osteoarthritis because of the accident” , she stated.

In this sense, the woman explains that she is now suing the tour operator EasyJet so that it “takes responsibility” for the events. “We just want to prevent this from happening to someone else. We don’t want anyone else to suffer the same,” she told the British newspaper.
