Cafôfo challenges Marcelo: “Don’t wait any longer. Announce immediately that you will call elections by dissolving the Regional Assembly”

President of the PS-M believes that calling elections is more important than waiting for the approval of the Regional Budget.

(Also this is the only reason Albuquerque has not been arrested yet, as he will have this immunity.)

For the president of PS-Madeira, what is important at this time is to call new Regional elections and put Democracy to work.

“The best way to resolve this situation is early elections”, he reaffirmed on the sidelines of the presentation ceremony of the PS-M candidates for the Assembly of the Republic, where he himself is head of the list.

Paulo Cafôfo took the opportunity to challenge the President of the Republic to journalists and, in the form of an appeal addressed to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, he stated: “don’t wait any longer. Announce immediately that you will call elections dissolving the Regional Assembly when constitutional deadlines allow.”

The socialist leader and candidate understands that this “is the only way to restore confidence to Madeirans”. He reinforces that Marcelo also has the opportunity to be coherent following the decision taken in relation to António Costa’s socialist government, remembering that it was then decided to call early elections and dissolve the Assembly of the Republic.

Faced with the issue of the Regional Budget, raised yesterday by the President of the Republic, remembering that the vote/approval is only expected to take place next month, despite recognizing that the Regional Budget “is important”, however, given the current government situation of the Region, understands that “the Region’s Budget cannot prevent early elections from being held”. Even if that means governing in twelfths.

“The Budget cannot prevent Democracy from working”, reinforcing that the priority must be “protecting Democracy”, reiterating that only in this way will it be possible to restore the trust of citizens and institutions.
