High areas of Funchal most affected by intense rains

The torrential rain felt this morning and early afternoon in Madeira has already caused several landslides and floods. Monte was, among the locations served by meteorological stations from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) in Madeira, the area where the most intense short-term rains were recorded.  

The Funchal Meteorological Observatory station reports that at 1:20 pm, precipitation in Monte reached 35 mm in the space of an hour.

The Pico Alto and Chão do Areeiro areas follow, with 28.4 and 28.2 mm within an hour, at 1:10 pm and 1:20 pm, respectively. 

The high areas were the locations in Madeira that recorded the most heavy rain during the morning and early afternoon of Saturday, January 13th. 

The peak occurred at lunchtime, resulting in several occurrences, such as small floods, landslides, landslides, falling rocks and clogging of sluices, as reported by DIÁRIO.

Significant rainfall was also recorded in a short space of time in Lazareto, Funchal, where it rained 20.7 mm in the space of one hour, at 2 pm, according to the Meteorological Observatory station. In other words, the capital of Madeira was the location most affected by heavy rain. 

With regard to Curral das Freiras, which is under the influence of the Funchal river basin, heavy rainfall was recorded, where apparently the rainwater ended up overflowing a stream, causing a flood, which hit three vehicles.
