Hundreds of members of the security forces demonstrate in Funchal

Military personnel from the National Republican Guard (GNR), agents from the Public Security Police, members of the Maritime Police and the Prison Guard joined together this evening, in a demonstration at Praça do Município, in Funchal, to ask for better wages and working conditions , in addition to the claim for a quest supplement.

To DIÁRIO Adelino Camacho, regional coordinator of ASPP/PSP–Madeira – Police Professionals Union Association, explained that the police decided this Friday to go ahead with this demonstration.

In recent days across the country there have been protest vigils by PSP agents, who complain of discrimination after the Government assigned a mission supplement only to the Judiciary Police. Despite agreeing with the granting of the supplement, they state that there should be equity for all security forces.

In Madeira, this Monday, and as reported by DIÁRIO, three hundred police officers were in this same location on a vigil. The same happened in Porto Santo, where dozens of elements from the PSP and GNR also gathered in front of Largo do Município in an attempt to attract the attention of the authorities.

Protests have increased across the country and there is no certainty as to when they will end.

The inorganic movement emerged within the PSP, but other security forces have been present at these concentrations.

“They will continue until our problems are resolved and we are actually heard”, concluded the ASPP/PSP regional coordinator.
