Port Authority of Funchal updates and worsens warning of sea agitation and strong winds

The Port Authority of Funchal today updated the warning of strong winds and strong sea agitation for the Madeira Archipelago until 6 am tomorrow, January 12th, highlighting the rise of waves that can reach 4 meters in height, in line with with the yellow warning already issued by IPMA, in this case in force until Saturday at the end of the afternoon.

In the case of the wind, it should be from the Southeast “fresh to very cool, sometimes strong in the afternoon, becoming South/Southwest during the night”, even if visibility is good to moderate during the period.

As for swell, on the North coast there are “West/Northwest waves with 2 to 3 meters and on the South coast with West/Southwest waves with 1.5 to 2.5 meters, gradually increasing to 2.5 to 3.5 meters, being 3.5 to 4 meters in the western part at the end of the period.

Given this worsening of the weather, the Captaincy once again recommends “the entire maritime community and the population in general to take care, both when preparing to go to sea, and when they are at sea or in coastal areas” .

Namely:

– ” Strengthen mooring and maintain close surveillance of moored and anchored vessels;

– Avoid walks near the sea or in areas exposed to sea disturbances, such as the protective jetties of ports, cliffs or beaches, to avoid being surprised by a wave;

– Do not practice recreational fishing , especially near cliffs and cliff areas frequently affected by breaking waves, always bearing in mind that in these conditions the sea can easily reach apparently safe areas.”

Here’s a warning. Now it’s up to everyone’s common sense.
