“A part of the Madeiran people knew, and suspected.”

A long post, and not so easy to translate, but I think this man knows what he is talking about, as well as we all know what has been going on.

Funny how those that always had something to say when I mentioned the word corruption, being against me, have been very quiet through this whole case.

“What goes round comes round”

The former leader of the Bloco de Esquerda, Francisco Louçã, who was in Madeira today in support of the candidacy for the Assembly of the Republic, at the presentation of the Electoral Manifesto, says that no one was surprised by the process started on January 24th regarding alleged cases of corruption .

“Honestly, for none of the people in this room there has been any surprise in recent weeks. They haven’t told us anything new. Then there are some picaresque details. Well, an envelope with 76 thousand euros appeared at the head of cabinet of the Government of the Republic. It also seems that an envelope with 900 thousand euros appeared. An envelope with 900 thousand euros is a very thick envelope, it’s an encyclopedia. But, anyway, we know that or let’s wait for what can be verified.

We know that there had been a marina on which 100 million euros had been spent and then dismantled, because for so many years it had only been in operation for a few months and the environmental attempt and the economic attempt were of no use. And, finally, it was “That’s what I said” as many knew it wouldn’t hold up against the ocean. They took that money from the Madeirans, 100 million. Now I can assure you, someone received it”, he warned the audience.

“And therefore, when we hear that there is a single company that takes half of the tenders and payments in government construction, 300 million, there is some surprise”, he highlights and ironizes. “You always knew that. And, well, that’s it. A part of the Madeiran people knew, they were suspicious, they felt that there was some account that didn’t add up. The accounts never added up. The account was always that of favoritism. This regional government, like the previous ones, over time, it is a champion of favoritism. And the criminal investigation will say what it has to say. But there is political and economic certainty that this government does not comply with the rules, has not complied with the rules and does not want to comply with essential rules of democracy, which are transparency, the use of public accounts appropriately, complying with the law, complying with the rules, not having a clientele of friends around you in order to create a business party, a people’s party, a party of their own companies, of their friends”.

Recalling that “this is the battle of the left and this battle is not today, it is always”, a battle that “gave us coherence” and “is what gives us strength in this context”, guarantees Francisco Louçã. “Now look, this regime is falling. This regime is falling. The very result of the elections in which the PSD lost its absolute majority already indicated that path. You could say, it made an alliance with the PAN, but frankly, two weaknesses do not make a strength. One party can continue and another can adapt. A party can abandon its essential principles and adhere to a majority that has further destroyed the environment. It is difficult to find, there are other examples also throughout the country, but it is difficult to find champions of environmental destruction like the regional government of Madeira, now with the support of PAN”, he accused.

And, therefore, “this combination of circumstances, of game, is simply further proof of the fragility and political decadence of this regime. That is why, as we count the votes in the national legislative elections and get closer to the next elections for the Regional Legislative Assembly of Madeira, which will come next, is so important that, in each of these steps, a left is asserted and a left is shown, those who were not afraid to say, were not afraid to face interests, were not afraid of pressure, they were not afraid of threats, they were not afraid of the truth, because we want the truth. We want it to be known, we want you to know who they are, how they operate, what they do. And this regime, which is intrinsically the regime of favoritism, is the culture of corruption, which is what has stimulated the attack on the rights of Madeirans”, he reinforces.

And he concludes by remembering the campaign phrase, to talk about the upcoming events in Madeira. “And, for this reason, when we say we will do what has never been done, it is to make sure that we always continue in the same fight and we will achieve what has never been done, which is to defeat an absolute majority of the PSD in Madeira, the PSD/PAN , to be able to reinforce the parliamentary presence of the Left Bloc, we need one of one, we need more strength so that it is decisive for the end of this backward Jardim regime that is living in Madeira and that is clinging to this rubble of the disaster that it created”.
