Albuquerque candidate for the direct elections scheduled for March 21st

I really don’t know why Albuquerque hasn’t been arrested, and questioned first before they even start talking about this. And a shame on all Madeirans if they let him back in. He is as guilty as the rest of them.

Miguel Albuquerque will a candidate for the elections for the leadership of the PSD-M which will be scheduled for March 21, 3 days before Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s decision on the possible dissolution of the regional parliament. A Congress and leadership elections that result from the need to clarify the current political crisis.

Albuquerque says he has all the conditions to continue and accuses the socialist opposition of making “anonymous complaints” that he says are “false” and have no basis in truth. Complaints that, according to the social democratic leader, gave rise to the process and the operation that resulted in three defendants being detained for 22 days and in which the president of the Regional Government himself was made a defendant. He said that socialist leaders had already admitted these accusations.

The PS, he accuses, “intends to obtain indirectly” what it never achieved at the polls.

The PSD leader, who was speaking after the political commission meeting, says that the investigating judge’s decision was clear and that it changed the circumstances that led to his resignation. Now, he guarantees, he is in a position to once again be a candidate for party leadership.

The PSD will meet the regional Council on February 21st (Wednesday) and the lists of candidates must be delivered by February 29th. The live events will be on March 21st and the Congress will be scheduled for April 20th and 21st.

“I have all the political conditions, I have never been bought by anyone in 30 years of public life. I keep my political capacity immaculate”, he stated.

Asked about his status as a defendant and whether he would ask for his immunity to be waived, he recalled that this results from the fact that he is a member of the Council of State and it would be enough for the court to ask for it to be waived, which it did not do.

Regarding the possibility of there being other competitors for leadership, it only guarantees that the party is democratic.

  4. What a joke! My family all said there would be no consequences for any of them. Problem is, no one wants the PS with their policies that are bankrupting social services and open borders, and the alternative is Chega. So perhaps it’s a case of better the devil you know…????

  6. If he gets back in I’m leaving. I left the UK to escape this kind of crooked, lying scum. I know everywhere has some level of corruption, but this blatant, in your face stuff is too far. Who votes for them?! I have yet to meet anyone that will admit to it. I start to wonder if the elections are rigged too. And these people always claim it’s a witch hunt by the opposition. What a disgusting man.

  7. The elections are rigged yes, in part. It always favour these people as their powerful friends like to keep them in power, like the Sousas. Nobody hears anything about these bastards these days. And the so call influencers girls from here, all quiet too. But belive me, being from here, many people will vote for him again. The people here it’s like this: ”I am fine, I don’t care, it’s all about me, he gives me espetada, I am happy”. It’s ridiculous, but nothing that the ones from here with a brain, don’t know.

  10. There are several things that make this situation a sad one. The chaos in government, concerns and doubts of the general population and, not the least of them, the conviction of Miguel and the three defendants in the minds of many people without any evidence or facts, just accusations. The judge looked at all of the evidence and concluded that there were no crimes committed but people without the benefit of seeing the evidence supplied by the JP have convicted all of them in their minds. Fortunately, there are not public hangings carried out by these people. Please leave convictions up to the courts.

    In my opinion, we should pray for our leaders to carry out the will of the people and for healing of the minds of those who have been hurt by this chaos.

    1. Harvey, I read your words and accept them but if justice is to be done it has to be visible. If the Judges questions and the defendants answers had been made public then perhaps the general public might not have “convicted” him.

    2. The courts said OJ Simpson was innocent too, and Michael Jackson. But we all know different. I’m sure you’re a perfectly intelligent person and you understand that judges often get things wrong, or a prosecution can be premature or flawed in some way, judges can be bought off, or show favouritism to certain people. I’m not saying that’s what happened but it’s always a possibility.

      1. The prosecution definitely made a mistake with Simpson and having him try to put a glove on and that created some reasonable doubt with the jury. I do not know the details of the evidence regarding Michael Jackson.

        But, the fact remains, that we ordinary citizens have not seen the detailed evidence yet some have already convicted four people. I doubt very much the judge was bought off, he was selected randomly by lottery. Did he make a mistake? Perhaps, but the prosecutor has not pointed out any details of the evidence that they think the judge missed. It would be good for the citizens to know what evidence was furnished but the general population is not trained in the rule of law and instead often wants to convict others much more easily than they would like if they were on the other side of the fence.
