Ship with wind turbine blades takes shelter in Funchal from bad weather at sea

The ship that transports wind turbine blades to northern Europe has been anchored off Funchal since Tuesday morning.

As DIÁRIO reported last night, the ‘UHL Future’ comes from Las Palmas, in the Canaries, and heads to Kiel, in Germany. It is scheduled to leave tomorrow night, around 11pm, but the stop in Funchal could be extended for longer. This passage through Madeira will be related to the bad weather that occurs on the high seas, with the captain trying to protect the ship from the sea turmoil. The freighter is managed by Blatas.

In the basement of ‘UHL Future’ there are around 40 blades for wind towers. Each blade measures approximately 61 meters long. To give you an idea, the last wind turbine blades that arrived in Madeira, in March 2020, were 67 meters long.

At the beginning of 2023, a company owned by Empresa de Electricidade da Madeira (EEM) launched a tender to supply new wind turbine equipment. However, this acquisition process is not yet complete.
