The year 2023 will go down in the history of regional tourism as the best ever, if 2024 doesn’t take the title. The truth is that once the accounts are finalized (although preliminary from December), tourist accommodation in Madeira and Porto Santo raised 652.7 million euros in total revenue, 460.7 million of which in revenue from accommodation (overnight stays). The data known today reveals growth of 23.2% and 26.2%, respectively compared to 2022, which had already been the best year in these individuals.
According to INE and the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira, from January to December 2023, the income per available room (RevPAR) and the income per used room (ADR) rose by 22.1% and 14.3% , respectively to 73.04 euros and 96.77 euros, these four being the main financial indicators that allow us to understand how positive last year was for regional tourism, at least as far as hotels and other units are concerned. The only reason there is no complete data is because data on local accommodation with less than 10 beds, which represents the bulk of this subsector of tourist accommodation, is still unknown.
