No surprise. The President of the Republic decided to dissolve the Legislative Assembly of Madeira and call elections for May 26th, as we announced in due time. This afternoon, after receiving the parties and listening to the Council of State, Marcelo formalizes the act at a meeting at which Miguel Albuquerque was present.
Here is the informative note from the Presidency of the Republic: “The Council of State, meeting under the presidency of His Excellency the President of the Republic, today, March 27, 2024, at the Palácio de Belém, for the purposes of paragraph a) of article 145th of the Constitution, gave a favorable opinion, by a majority of voters, to the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
The President of the Republic thus decided to dissolve the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and schedule the elections for May 26, 2024, having signed the respective Decree, immediately endorsed by the acting Prime Minister.
