Marítimo Stadium walls demolished

This is a requirement resulting from the municipal licensing for the stadium.

The walls surrounding the entrance to the Marítimo stadium, on Rua Dr. Pita, with access to the club store, began to be demolished on Wednesday. These are the walls still from the old stadium and which, in the renovation carried out in the meantime by the management then presided over by Carlos Pereira, it was decided to leave standing, as a memory of an iconic place in Madeiran sport.

From what we understand, this ongoing work is the result of the stadium’s licensing process which, since its inauguration in December 2016, had never been completed. This licensing process, which recovered the initial project for the stadium designed by the architect Pedro Araújo, was requested, by the previous Board chaired by Rui Fontes, from the Funchal City Council, and in the meantime approved by the Funchal city council.

In this context, Carlos André Gomes, to DIÁRIO, explained that these works would have to be done for licensing to be a fact, and, on the other hand, “it is also a requirement of the entities that leased the stores to Marítimo and that will be built in that area, with the aim of giving them greater visibility”.

In this way, in the entire area of the stadium in front of Rua Dr. Pita, a large square will be created, where the businesses that Marítimo has already attracted will be located.
