Pico Ruivo turned dark with snow

Thermometers also register negative temperatures, as is the case of -0.4ºC in Pico do Areeiro.

The highest peaks of Madeira were ‘painted’ white in the evening. At Pico Ruivo, located in the municipality of Santana, at 1,862 meters above sea level, snow already covers the ground.

Temperatures also dropped below freezing in the highest areas of Madeira. At Pico do Areeiro, the thermometer touched -0.4ºC degrees, at 8 pm, according to data from meteorological stations from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA)

The IPMA also points out identical forecasts for tomorrow. This Good Friday, “periods of rain or showers, more frequent and sometimes heavy, are expected from the afternoon onwards, which may include snow in the highest points of the island of Madeira at the end of the day”.
