According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), this Tuesday, March 12th, the sky is expected to be generally very cloudy in Madeira, with periods of rain expected, sometimes strong and persistent in the south slopes and highlands of the island of Madeira from mid-afternoon, which will therefore be under yellow warning.
South Coast of Madeira and mountainous regions under yellow warning due to heavy rain
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a yellow warning – due to heavy rain – for the south coast of Madeira and mountainous regions, which will be in force between 6pm and midnight tomorrow, Tuesday.
Weak to moderate winds (10 to 30 km/h) from the South/Southwest are also forecast, becoming, from the end of the morning, moderate to strong (30 to 40 km/h), with gusts of up to 65 km/h in the extreme East and West of the island of Madeira, and strong (35 to 50 km/h), with gusts of up to 80 km/h, in the highlands of the island of Madeira, turning west at the end of the day.
In the Funchal area the wind will be weak (less than 15 km/h), becoming moderate (20 to 35 km/h)
from the South/Southwest from the end of the morning.
Temperatures are expected to vary between 16ºC and 21ºC, in Funchal and Porto Santo.
Regarding the state of the sea, northwestern waves with a height of 1.5 to 2.5 meters are expected on the North coast. On the south coast, waves will be less than 1 meter from the southwest, increasing to 1.5 to 2.5 meters at the end of the day.
The sea water temperature will be around 18 to 20ºC.
