Body was found about 150 meters from the woman’s corpse.
This morning, a male corpse was found in São Vicente, which appears to be that of the second French tourist who disappeared, together with his wife, on March 16th.
According to what DIÁRIO was able to determine, the body was approximately 150 meters from the woman’s corpse, found at the end of yesterday.
The body of the woman, Véronique Blond, as well as that of her husband, have already been removed and transported to the road.
To DIÁRIO, PSP commissioner João Góis explained that the bodies were in an area of difficult access and steep: “This area is very off the trail. The indication we give is that they may have fallen in an upper area of the trail to this area”.
“The area is not easily accessible for us to work safely. To safely remove a body from that area, you need to have certain points, you need to work on ropes and people need to be safe. With nightfall and the difficulties in terrain became impractical”, said the commissioner about the difficulty of recovering the bodies.
He adds that it wasn’t very difficult to find the second body as there were broken reeds in the area, which led to the belief that something had fallen. “When we removed the first body, which was still a somewhat time-consuming operation, we did a search and saw that there was a part, a second ravine, where there was some evidence that someone had gone there because there were broken reeds. This second body would have been designed to a lower area of the first body”.
The bodies will be sent to the Institute of Legal Medicine, where an autopsy will be carried out to determine the identification and causes of death.
Various resources were involved in the searches: 16 members and three vehicles from the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters, Public Security Police and the National Republican Guard.
A sad end to this story and thoughts with the family. They will have some closure now to this.
As we know there are many families still that never found there loved ones, and highlights how dangerous the mountains and the Coastlines can be, especially if you go away from the trails, and fall into areas, that can be impossible to access, even for drones and sniffer dogs.
