Madalena do Mar Escarpment will be ‘cleaned’ on the 2nd and 3rd of May

The Ponta do Sol City Council will clean the eastern escarpment of Madalena do Mar, in an intervention scheduled for the 2nd and 3rd of May. The aim is the controlled removal of large stone blocks, in order to restore the best safety conditions for locals and visitors. The movement of people and parking is prohibited between 8:30 am and 5 pm.

On April 27th, a landslide occurred on the cliff overlooking the Passo neighborhood. Now, the Municipality of Ponta do Sol will increase the stability of the cliff by removing some rock blocks that remained on the slope and thus increase safety conditions for local inhabitants and their property.

“The conditioning will be duly marked, with users being asked to understand and scrupulous compliance with the signage and instructions given to them on site”, states a press release.

This operation will be monitored and coordinated on the ground by the Ponta do Sol presidency office and the Municipal Civil Protection Service, in an intervention that will count on the collaboration of the team of rock workers from the Regional Roads Directorate (DRE).
