A 50-year-old man was found dead in an irrigation canal on Estrada dos Moinhos, in Caniço.
The alert was given to the Firefighters Sapadores de Santa Cruz early in the morning on Sunday, at 00:01, and an ambulance with two members was mobilized to the scene.
However, when the firefighters arrived there, they were unable to do anything to save his life, as the victim was already dead.
Apparently, the man fell into the levada and hit his head, dying.
The Public Security Police took charge of the incident.
