Porto Santo with air connections until September

Contract with Binter is extended for the 6th time, since 2022, now for a period of five months.

The connection between Madeira and Porto Santo has been extended again, now until September.

It will be for the sixth time that Binter once again ensures the connection with a public service obligation that ‘expired’ this Monday, April 22nd – after that date it was not possible to book travel between the two islands on the company’s online platform .

This is a dossier that has been going on since December 2021, when the Government of the Republic launched a new international tender procedure for the concession of this inter-island connection.

Among the competing companies – in addition to Binter – was Sevanair, a company that decided to go to court to challenge the tender. Apparently, according to the competition jury, the Portuguese company’s proposal was submitted after the deadline, an issue that is still awaiting a solution in the courts.

In short, the Government of the Republic, as has been the case since 2022, once again extended the concession of the line to Binter – a Spanish company that has been operating between the skies of Madeira and Porto Santo since 2018.
