Filipe Alexandre Gonçalves is the new president of the Journalists Union in Madeira

Filipe Alexandre Gonçalves (President), Erica Franco (Vice-President), Cláudia Ornelas (Treasurer), Cláudia Sequeira (Secretary) and Catarina Gouveia (Member) are the new faces of the Regional Wood Delegation of the Journalists’ Union, which yesterday was the elections.

Of the 89 members able to vote in Madeira, the election saw 53 participants (60% of the votes), the majority (45) in online mode and 8 in person at the Union’s headquarters in Largo do Corpo Santo, in Funchal.

As substitutes for the 2024-2026 three-year period, Élvio Passos, David Teixeira Fernandes, Iolanda Chaves, Carla Ribeiro and Paulo Freitas were elected.

A note from the Union at national level reported on the new structure elected in the country.

“The single list competing for the national bodies of the Journalists’ Union, under the motto “For Journalism, with Democracy”, was elected for the three-year period 2024/2026. 610 members of the Journalists’ Union voted, out of a total of 1731 voters. They were elected the following bodies: Board of the General Assembly, National Management, Fiscal Council, Deontological Council and General Council.

The new Board will be chaired by journalist Luís Filipe Simões. The General Assembly, by journalist Cláudia Lobo, and the Deontological Council, by journalist Manuela Goucha Soares. The General Council will be chaired by journalist Paula Sofia Luz.

In these elections, the regional directors of Madeira and the Azores were also elected.”
