A man is lying prostrate in the Old Town of Funchal, more specifically near the restaurants, refusing to be assisted by firefighters.
The owner of one of the restaurants in that location, Gonçalo Abreu, explained to DIÁRIO that the man had been lying on the floor since 5 pm and that he was upset and screaming.
“The man is screaming, he has already urinated and vomited. He must be drunk and sick”, he begins by saying, admitting that resources were activated to help him.
The Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters were alerted to this situation, however, upon arriving at the scene, the man refused to be assisted and transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
The owner also explains that he contacted the Public Security Police and received the following response: “I called the PSP and they said that as you are on the public road you can do that”.
With customers in his establishment, the owner regrets the image being conveyed, adding that consumers have already realized the situation. “Tourists have [already noticed the situation] and are taking photos.”
