A swimmer was rescued and resuscitated by the team of lifeguards from SANAS Madeira, late this afternoon, on Seixal beach.
The 69-year-old man, of Ukrainian nationality, was swimming when he was hit by a wave and submerged, and it is suspected that he hit his head on the bottom of the sea. He later emerged unconscious, having been rescued by the lifeguards who were at the scene.
After an initial examination, they detected that the man was in cardio-respiratory arrest. In this sense, assisted by two nurses, they provided basic life support.
“Thanks to the quick response and early start of resuscitation maneuvers, the pulse was able to recover”, reveals SANAS Madeira.
Upon arrival of the Volunteer Firefighters of São Vicente and Porto Moniz and EMIR, transfer was carried out to the ambulance, where the individual was assisted by the medical team and, subsequently, transported to the health unit.
