Albuquerque returns to Porto Santo for vacation sparks wave of criticism

The President of the Regional Government came to Funchal on Friday night, at the end of the 4th day of fires, to learn about the situation until Sunday.

On Friday, the president returned aboard the ferry ‘Lobo Marinho’, went to Curral das Freiras at close to midnight and spoke to the media. The following day, Saturday, mid-morning, he returned to Curral das Freiras to check the situation again and also went to the municipality of Ribeira Brava.

However, yesterday, the governor, who had interrupted his rest, returned to his vacation in Porto Santo, prompting a wave of criticism that spread across social media, condemning the behavior adopted by Miguel Albuquerque.

This, at a time when Madeira continues to burn with active fronts, at least, in Curral das Freiras and Paul da Serra.

There is even a photograph circulating on the internet of the president on the beach at Porto Santo.

The major fire that is affecting the Region broke out on Wednesday in the Ribeira Brava mountains and, almost a week later, continues, having already consumed a large area of scrubland.
