GNR seizes desert lynx in Funchal

The National Republican Guard seized a desert lynx this Wednesday in the municipality of Funchal.

This operation, carried out by the Criminal Investigation Section (SIC), involved the collaboration of elements of the Nature and Environment Protection Service and aimed to “protect wildlife species with the aim of preventing, detecting and suppressing situations of trafficking, exploitation, commercialization and detention of protected species in captivity”.

According to the statement, the Guard’s military personnel detected that a 38-year-old woman was illegally holding an animal of a protected species, and the woman was identified and the lynx was seized. A report was drawn up for the possession of a species that is prohibited from being held.

The National Republican Guard, through the Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA), appeals for reports of possible situations of mistreatment or abandonment. To this end, they inform that the SOS Environment and Territory Line (808 200 520) can be used, which is operating 24/7 to report offences or clarify doubts.
