Road traffic increased by 5.1% on the main motorway (2 lanes) and 9.1% on the Expresso (1 lane) during the first six months of this year, compared to the same period in 2023, according to information provided by the Regional Roads Directorate (DRE) and published today by the Regional Statistics Directorate of Madeira (DREM).
On the concession roads, light vehicle traffic increased on both (+5.3% on the Expressway; +9.3% on the Expresso), while in heavy vehicle traffic, the variation was negative on the Expressway (-0.8%), but positive on the Expresso (+1.2%).
According to DREM, the 1st half of 2024 recorded, on average, per day, almost 36.6 thousand vehicles on the Expressway and 7.0 thousand on the Expresso, representing year-on-year increases of 4.7% and 9.3%, in the same order.
