Singaporean Pop-up Restaurant

Makan Madeira will host a pop-up style restaurant in Funchal.

It is a limited menu for the pop-up and we will be serving:
Starters-
1) Satay ayam or chicken satay (€8): 
Originating from the Middle East, this meat skewer dish was first adapted in Indonesia. Peanuts were introduced by the Portuguese and Spanish bringing the addition of peanut sauce to the satay. The meat is infused with flavours served with savoury peanut sauce, fresh cucumbers and onions for that crunch on the side. 
 
2) Popiah or vegetarian spring rolls (€6):

This unique spring roll is filled with crisp cabbage,carrots, glass noodles, coriander, umami shiitake mushrooms and chayote delicately marinated with soy sauce and white pepper.

3) Epok-epok ayam or chicken curry empanada (€8):

Chicken curry empanada or sardine curry empanada. Also known as curry puff in English, it is believed to have been influenced by the Portuguese and Spanish pasteis and empanadas. The chicken is infused with our curry powder blend and potato cubes.

4) Hainanese chicken rice (€12): 

A Singaporean favourite adapted from Chinese immigrants from Hainan, southern China. Roasted chicken with aromatics served at room temperature with rice cooked with chicken broth and garlic. Served with zesty chilli sauce and ginger sauce on the side with crisp cucumber.  
5) Vegan randang (€12):
A Minangkabau dish originating from Sumatra, Indonesia which has a Portuguese influence traced back to the 17th century. This spiced, rich stew made with mushrooms, seasoned with herbs and spices with coconut milk over a period of several hours. Served with rice.
 
Dessert-
 
6) Pandan basque cheesecake (€6):

Creamy cheesecake with vanilla tones, pandan flavours, hints of coconut milk with a caramelised burnt top.

7) Bingka Ubi & Kuih Seri Muka combo (€8):

Bingka Ubi is a grated cassava or tapioca introduced by the Portuguese mixed with coconut milk mixed into a spongy, gluten-free cake. This is a combination box which include Kuih Seri Mika, a steamed layer cake consist of glutinous rice layer steamed with coconut milk and pandan custard.

We also have cocktails which include –

1. Basil Tropical smash – Fresh sweet basil, gin, lemon with sugar syrup (€8).
2. Changi Camomile Sour – Bourbon whisky, honey chamomile, egg white and lemon (€8)
3. Pandan Poncha – Makan Madeira’s interpretation of Madeirense poncha. Pandan, ginger, lemongrass, honey and Madeiran rum (€6).
4. Ulu Pandan Colada – Pandan mocktail with coconut cream, fresh pineapple, lemon and sugar (€6).
Coral beer, Coca-Cola and bottled water are also for sale.
We do a combo of €23 (starter, main and dessert) for vegan option and €25 for meat options.
