GNR officer seriously injured in accident on Via Rápida

A 31-year-old man was seriously injured after a traffic accident that occurred this Sunday morning, on the Via Rápida, just below the runway at Madeira Airport.

Initial information points to a skid, but there is a possibility that it was a collision, with the driver fleeing the scene.

According to a source from the Santa Cruz Firefighters (BSSC), the victim had suspected exposed fractures in the lower limbs, having been rescued by the BSSC pre-hospital team, which also had the support of the EMIR medical team.

The 31-year-old man is a GNR operative and was taken by ambulance to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, in a serious but stable condition.

The corporation sent a pre-hospital team and a support team to the scene, assisted by two vehicles, including an ambulance. EMIR and PSP were also at the scene, and the authorities are investigating the accident.

The first version points to a skid, but the PSP is considering the possibility that another vehicle was involved in the accident. Only images from Via Litoral, a VR concessionaire, will be able to clarify what really happened.
