Azorean firefighters have already arrived in Madeira

The 14 Azorean firefighters who have been helping to fight the flames that have been consuming resources since last Wednesday, August 14, arrived at dawn on a Sata (Azores Airlines) flight from Ponta Delgada and landed at Madeira Airport at 1:14 am.

The “contingent of 14 Firefighters, from the 5 Fire Brigades of São Miguel Island, Azores” (in the photo) are thus coming to “support the fight against the fire. The inspector of the Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service of the Azores is also present”, informs a note from the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Ponta Delgada published on Facebook.

“They are our peacekeepers, some of whom are already experienced in this same operational scenario,” the note states. “We wish them a speedy return home, to their families and comrades, a sign that the current situation has been resolved,” it states. “In the meantime, we wish them all good work!”

With the motto “Life for life!”, the note sends a hug of solidarity to our Madeiran brothers and to all those who are in the theater of operations, to protect people and property.
