This is certainly one of many cases. But it is still a somewhat bizarre solution offered by Ryanair to a Madeiran passenger who lives in Lisbon and bought a ticket to come to Madeira.
The trip was scheduled for August 17th and, in fact, it happened. However, it was not completed due to strong winds at Madeira Airport.
The plane ended up diverting to the island of Tenerife and only later returned to Lisbon. The Madeiran passenger in question, who lives and works in the capital, returned home to learn that his flight to Madeira had been rescheduled for today, two days after the original date.
This change, caused by strong winds, was considered peaceful.
The worst thing was what happened today. When the passenger tried to check in, he was informed by the airline that today’s flight had been cancelled. And the alternative was September 2nd, two weeks from now.
As a passenger who frequently travels between Funchal and Lisbon, the Madeiran has already found an alternative with another airline. However, he is concerned to know that situations like these happen to other less informed citizens, who do not have a home in Lisbon and have to bear all the costs of food and accommodation in the Portuguese capital.
The same applies, he says, to mainland residents who came to Madeira on holiday and encounter identical constraints when returning to the mainland.
It should be noted that Madeira Airport has been severely affected by the winds that have been felt since before the weekend.
It is worth remembering that just last Saturday JM reported on a similar change. In this case, it was a Madeiran man who had a trip to Lisbon booked and which also had to be cancelled due to the weather. As an alternative, easyJet suggested a new date… six days later.
