Around 80 people were evacuated from their homes, including seven bedridden people who were transported to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, due to the fire that broke out last Wednesday and which reached major proportions yesterday evening in Ribeira Brava and Câmara de Lobos.

Paulo Andrade, Councillor for Civil Protection at Ribeira Brava City Council, confirmed to DIÁRIO that there were no injuries and that “the fire is much calmer today”.

However, he said that the fire consumed some outbuildings, abandoned houses and Palheiros, but said he was not aware of any dead animals in that area. There is still no information about what the fire consumed in Achadas dos Aparícios.

The councillor also said that all the sites in Serra de Água were affected, with the exception of Pinheiro. There is also currently an active front in Lugar da Serra, in Campanário, in a forested area.

Paulo Andrade thanks all entities for their support, particularly SESARAM.
