Passenger reports chaos at Madeira Airport due to flight cancellations

A foreign citizen has taken to social media to report the chaos he says is taking place at Madeira International Airport. The passenger reports that several people are waiting for a response due to flights being cancelled yesterday.

As reported this morning, the wind is affecting traffic at the airport, causing some delays in arrivals to Madeira, with only one flight cancelled early in the morning by 1pm. However, at least 23 cancellations were recorded yesterday, which means that many passengers are waiting to have their flights rescheduled, with some having spent the night at the airport terminal.

Glen Campbell indicates that passengers are waiting for their flights to be rescheduled and indicates that airlines Ryanair and easyJet should have already secured charter flights for citizens who were stranded due to the strong winds.

According to the latest data released by IPMA, the strongest gust recorded since midnight today was 75 km/h, at 4 am. At 11 am, the strongest gust reached 49 km/h at Madeira airport.
