Two more trails closed due to active fires in the mountains of Câmara de Lobos

The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) closed, early this Friday afternoon, as a precaution, given the weather conditions favourable to the occurrence of fires, two more classified trails in the Region due to the fire that is active in the Ribeira Brava and Câmara de Lobos mountains, in the latter case on the slope facing Curral das Freiras. 

The two trails now closed are located inside the Funchal Ecological Park, therefore, in the mountains of this municipality. They are PR3 – Vereda do Burro and PR 3.1 – Caminho Real do Monte.
They join the other four classified routes that were already closed since this morning, namely PR 1 – Vereda do Areeiro, PR 1.3. – Vereda da Encumeada, PR 2 – Vereda do Urzal and PR 12 – Caminho Real da Encumeada (which has been closed since yesterday).

These trails “are closed due to the occurrence/progress of a forest fire in the mountain area (ridge)”, reinforced the entity responsible for the forest area of ​​the Region.

Although it has been closed since the early hours of the morning, there are still several tourists inside the trail.

Two members of the Forest Police are currently at Pico do Areeiro, trying to prevent more hikers from entering the closed trails that start from that location.

In addition to the aforementioned walking trails, the forest path between Eira do Serrado and Pico do Areeiro is also closed.
