DGS REPORTS 31 CASES OF CORONAVIRUS IN MADEIRA

The General Directorate of Health (DGS) reports the existence of 31 cases of coronavirus in Madeira.

The information is on the DGS website, which means an increase of seven cases compared to the last record, presented yesterday by IASAÚDE.

  1. Well perhaps the government will reflect on its illogical decision to allow construction workers to carry on working, travelling together, unprotected and then going home to their families. When you try and speak to them and explain the risks they are taking, all you get is a shrug of the shoulders. Another point, we know of tourists who arrived here on the 16th from France, and they are free to go out as they arrived before the lockdown. Noboby is checking on them. On the other hand at the supermarket we have the control of I metre, limited access, etc. Is this island serious about the virus or this is all a joke?

    1. A joke! You really need to go back to the UK or wherever you hail from. If you bothered to go through Tobi’s blogs you will be able to see that Miguel Albuquerque, our Regional President has implemented so many safety features into our lives here to make us all as safe as possible. It is one hell of a battle but the spirit of the Madeiran people is as ever, strong. You have a valid point about construction sites. They are still open in the Uk and really ought to be closed down. You say you know of French tourists who are free to go out but you forget that everybody on Madeira is under the same set of emergency rules. Tourists do not go around with a plaque on them announcing that they are French tourists.
      But you come across as a typical expat whinger. If you had any decency at all you would apologise for suggesting we treat coronavirus as a joke.

  2. If you know the tourists and you think they are not complying with rules by “going out” why don’t you report their behaviour to local authorities?

Tobi, yesterday afternoon I was looking on the live webcam and saw a couple taking photos by Ronaldo’s statue I think they were holiday .makers also kids on skate boards on people’s square, another thing why aren’t McDonald’s closed in England they are closed even for takeaways, this makes me so cross, why are there still idiots about.

    This ‘informational’ map was posted on their website over 3 hours ago, showing Madeira with 31 cases, and the Azores with 30.

    Yet since then 1 hour ago, the regional health authority of the Azores in their daily bulletin have said that there are now 27 cases in the Azores, up from 25. Certainly not 30 like the map shows. And last evening iSaude Madeira said that they were waiting for the results of one test, there was no indication expecting a glut of new results. It could have happened but you would think that any central database would only update figures once the days official briefings had been done, which wont happen until after 6 today.

    One clue to explain the difference in numbers is in the subtitle of the DNoticias’ headline about this which translates as ‘The minister put forward a possible explanation: cases that were previously registered abroad were allocated to the respective regions.’

    It’s probably not 7 NEW cases then (hopefully anyway). In any case I think that the DNoticias and Journal da Madeira are being very irresponsible posting this on their website without waiting for official figures from iSaude or any context to the figures that comes from the official press conferences where these figures are given out, all it does is causes anxiety in people unnecessarily. No blame to you obviously Tobi, you can’t check everything these ‘journalists’ put out, but these people should know better…..

    1. I think national DGS messed up the numbers a little bit. From the beginning Madeira and Azores have always reported cases which were positive in the island, independetely of the nationality of the ill. On the other hand the national DGS created a separate ” Foreigns” field which has been eliminated in the latest bulletin and distributed by the regions where they were found as Madeira and Azores always did. Problem is the numbers don’t match. Lets see what IASAUDE states in todays conference.

    2. Hopefully you are right. We’ll know more after the Journal de Madeira bulletin in a couple of hours.

  5. Charles Robert Watson, I live on the Island and have done for 8 years, I know the rules I have to abide by them so why shouldn’t everybody else.I am not a whinger I just think everybody should think twice and think about what they are doing.
