MADEIRA REGISTERS SIX MORE NEW CASES OF COVID-19

These are four cases imported from Poland and two from France. There are now 60 active cases, of which 50 are imported cases identified in the context of surveillance activities implemented at Madeira airport and 10 are cases of local transmission.

There are also two situations that are being studied by health authorities. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing.

  1. That is awful.
    What’s happening with the New Year’s Eve situation? My mother told me today that the Governo regional saying they are going ahead with it ? And geti g the tourism in? Is that true?

    2. Certainly the street decorations & lights are going up. There will be a Christmas market and New Years fireworks. Do not know if the fun fair will be there but they did mention “animation in the Praça do Povo”. The Noite do Mercado is of course the big question, can it happen with social distancing?

  2. Gosh I wonder how they going to do the social distancing in such a small area at that sort of time of year.

    And considering what’s happening still with Covid 19 and a new possible lockdown over here in Uk ?? if tourists are able to arrive there at a time like this it could be a disaster.

  3. At the moment 50 imported cases and Christmas/NewYear in view let me wish that the people travelling to Madeira would take a test before departure!
    With a SARS-CoV-2 Rapid Antigen Test already on the market that would be my best option to keep the island free Covid and the adminstration from managing people under quarantine.

    1. I’d like to win the lottery but that is as likely to happen as getting a test before departing the UK.

  5. What they do not tell you is that the four from Poland all arrived on Thursday, received negative tests on that day, and have moving freely amongst us since.

    The cost of not having a meaningful quarantine period!!!

    Where did John Dalpra get his information? As that is a quite defamatory statement

    How many passengers arrived in Madeira last month? (I estimate 34,500)
    How many imported cases in Madeira last month? (I believe it was 50 cases)
    What’s the % of infected passengers ( I calculate it’s only 0.1%)

    But it would really nice to know the real figures,
    Does anyone have the actual data on these figures?

  7. As regards… Where did John Dalpra get his information? From someone who came from the same departure location, and was informed about the infections the same day as the announcement. Try to verify this with the authorities if you wish.

    As regards… As that is a quite defamatory statement. Is there anybody in the real world that believes that a negative test a few hours after potential exposure to the virus proves anything?

    As regards the rest of the questions… I have no idea. Only 0.1% is perhaps unimportant, unless it is you, or someone close to you that is infected. The danger of dealing with percentages instead of real people with only one life to use/lose !!!
