TUI holidays cancelled for the rest of 2020

I guess there will be a lot of people Looking for their smile with today’s news.

So this news has just been announced today, and I guess it will affect a number of you planning holidays in Madeira this year.

I believe this is all Tui holidays (package holidays) that have been cancelled, but I don’t know where this will leave Tui flights.

It’s going to be a very difficult time for the airlines to stay in the air over the next months, and many including BA and Easyjet just don’t know where they will be over the Christmas period, where many people will ve trying to get away, especially to Madeira, as its one of the safest destinations in Europe.

How many of you might be affected by this, how many have package holidays, or just flight only.????

  1. I have a holiday on Madeira waiting for me in December. With Spies(sunclass Airlines). I dont think it will be possible to go to Madeira in december. I should also have been on Madeira in june..
    I use to come to Madeira 4 times in a year.
    I am coming from Denmark and I have been on Madeira 49 times..since 1980.

      1. Yes I have seen many things change. I was only 8 years old-the first time I came to Madeira. I have a lot of old pictures from that time. And I can say that it was more banans plantage than houses?
        I hope to be back to my hood “Ajuda” soon❤️

    2. If Denmark does not follow Boris’ ridiculour example, I don’t see a reason why you conldn’t get here. It is not very busy here at present but planes with holiday makers arrive every day. What airline does your travel agency use?

  2. We still are waiting to book for Madeira again. It’ all very unpredictable what will happen. We always book package with Kras ( from Holland) and always fly with either Transavia or TUI from Amsterdam.

  3. I am keeping up to date with Easyjet hoping to come end of October. Easyjet has changed the size of airplane for my flight recently. Otherwise no change as yet.

  4. We’re hoping to come out with Easyjet at end November – fingers crossed. No cancellation of flights yet!!

  5. We are hoping to fly with Easyjet on the 27 November for 10 days. Not sure if this will go ahead as our friends have just had their flights cancelled for October

    Due to the FCDO’s advice against all but essential travel to Portugal, TUI UK has cancelled all holidays to Faro, Portugal up to and including Monday 12 October 2020 and all holidays to Madeira up to and including Saturday 31st October 2020.

We have always travelled with TUI to Madeira we used to go 3/4 times a year and stay between 1 month to 2 months our favourite time in Madeira is anytime but Christmas and New Year are special, and the Flower Festival is brilliant.It’s a very sad time for us all I just hope that next year 2021 things do improve but unfortunately here in the UK we are going backwards not forewords with COVID19 so for now we stay put.

  8. We had a holiday to Madeira booked with TUI in November. About three weeks ago, TUI cancelled it. We really don’t know why. We are very upset … and definitely struggling to find our smiles 🙁

  9. For September Tui were not flying to Madeira but using easyJet as the airline for their package tours from Bristol or Manchester and Gatwick hence I came on Jet2 package. For my time share weeks in November Jet2 are flying as normal and have a better record of passenger transit when the airport closes due to wind.

  10. Tui cancelled my holiday for December about 6 weeks ago (were flying from East Midlands). We’ve now booked with Jet2 from Manchester, but are waiting for this to be cancelled too ?. Can’t wait to be back in Madeira.

  11. Still hoping to come to Madeira on Oct 31st flying with Jet2. Should have been there in June and can’t wait to get back to our second home. Fingers crossed it will happen.

  12. We’re booked with Jet2 on 20 November for 3 weeks – travelling from Scotland. Fingers crossed. We usually come twice a year 3 weeks end of Nov beginning Dec and 3 weeks end of Feb beginning Mar. Not booked Feb/Mar yet but may do that soon. We so wish to come back to your beautiful island. Fingers crossed.

  13. We are hoping to travel with easyJet in December and have a separate apartment booking, already had two cancellations this year. Fingers crossed, the last we heard is that our much loved Madeira is an allowed destination. We will also be trying to get Covid-19 tested before we leave the UK – as should be mandatory and respectful before all international travel – but are not too sure about turn around times for results. If we needed to be tested at Ronaldo airport, we had heard that we wouldn’t be charged. Is this true and if positive, what would be the process for isolation and retesting?

    1. Hi, yes if you need a test here it’s free. If positive you will be sent to a hotel, and tested each week and only can return once a positive result. The hotel will be paid for by the government here, ie us… And you will be responsible for your return flight if you miss your original one. There is a great article pinned to the homepage of my blog.

  14. It looks like the IK government has gone completely bananas. Stupid stupid stupid. Madeira and the Açores should and can be treated differently. Looks like Boris has followed Trump’s advice and has been drinking bleachg. It’s growing out now.

  15. Booked our yearly holiday with TUI to Madeira i forFebruary 2021. We were told a month ago that this has been cancelled. There is no indication whether the rest of the year can be booked

  16. Hoping to return for our 7th Christmas mid December Jet2 from.Glasgow but would willingly change to Edinburgh or even fly from.England if required to get there !!!! We SO miss Maderia and our Friends

  17. I hope that does not affect TUI Germany as well. Yesterdays flight from Hannover were only around 50 passengers, so you wonder how the company will survive.
    Fingers crossed that for Christmas & New Year flights will continue.

  18. We were due to come to Madeira for Christmas and New Year, but received an email last week from On The Beach, saying it was now cancelled.

    Our outbound flight was with BA and our return flight back to the UK was with Tui. All I know is that the hotel we were booked with is not open and according to reliable sources there, they do not know whether they’ll actually be opening at all by Christmas!!

  19. Toby I think you have either directly got the wrong impression from the misleading headline on google news or got this from someone else who did. I am not surprised as I also read it that way from the headline but then read the article and understood that the headline was technically correct but misleading.

    the headline one google yesterday was something like ‘the Tui holidays cancelled for the rest of 2020’ with the important word being the. the article linked was I forget which paper, I think the metro, or some other English regional paper, and it was a list of European destinations with the dates Tui was cancelling up to. so it wasnt Tui cancelling all holidays until the end of the year, it was a list of all THE destinations Tui had cancelled up to various points this year.

  21. We are due to fly out with EasyJet at the end of October and have not been informed otherwise as yet. With COVID rates increasing in U.K. my main concern is that Madeira will not welcome UK guests. We have missed two earlier visits this year. Also hoping to fly out early January. We are prepared for the 12 hour isolation on arrival and quarantine in U.K. on our return if current rules are changed. We miss Madeira so much.

Flying from Scotland to Madeira still means quarantine on return so we decided on a last minute break to Turkey To escape the ever increasing draconian measures being imposed by our glorious bumbling leader, and I don’t mean boris for once. We normally visit Madeira 4 times a year and don’t have any hope of getting there on our next planned visit which was in November.

    Didn’t know what to expect but my we were so amazed on a lesson in how well to deal with the Covid crisis. The Turks have raised the bar and treated people like respected adults.

    No testing on arrival, mask only worn by staff who were polite Welcoming and respectful at all times,
    Social distancing respected by all nationalities and hotels that were spotless and automated… all
    Doors opened automatically for example. Food amazing everything spotless individually wrapped etc etc weather 30 deg plus and For once able to relax and for a short time Forget blasted Covid before returning to the madness in the UK, and no quarantine on return. This is what people want right now from a holiday… Bleat and baulk all you want If you want visitors to Madeira this is the truth

    Sorry Madeira lost a faithful visitor

    1. I prefer to have a test on arrival, paid for by the Maderian Government, for my safety and that of the local people. Having spent three weeks there in the last two months, I can say the Virus has not changed the Madeirans attitude and friendliness to their visitors. If you are happy to support the odious political machine and it’s Dictator, Erdogan, so be it.

    3. Sorry, but if you want to go on holiday without being reminded of covid because you need to relax, you are not living in the real world. Covid is here, like it or not. Turkey wants to show a relaxed and comfortable face to tourists, regardless of the many deaths and infections among the Turks. Not uncommon in a dictatorship where prestige is more important than the welfare of the people.
      With that kind of mentality, I think Madeira is better off without you.
      I am usually a winter resident here, but this summer we decided to stay here as Madeira is the only place I know of that has the situation under control. Not without a lot of effort though, and a lot of measures.
      We don’t care about the obligation to wear masks, we comply, like we should, and we feel safe. The fun you had in Turkey may com at a cost. If not for you personally, some are going to pay. But as you want to be carefree, you may not care for all I know.
      Covid measures is not bout what people want. Covid measures is about what people need to stay healthy.

    4. Turkey has just gone into UK´s and USA´s “black list” following it was found they were not providing data to the same standards other countries do. Basically, they were just counting symptomatic cases when everyone else is reporting every positive case. So, no testing, no masks, no data reporting, surely a safe place to visit.

Very typical and expected indignant responses which fail completely to understand the post… when Madeira is on its feet don’t doubt this is because TOURISTS largely want to be On HOLIDAY and relax and have no doubt they can have a relaxing time elsewhere without worry they will be in quarantine for the duration of their holiday or on return this is why visitors will look elsewhere and once done so won’t return. Oh I want to be safe etc etc what about the millions denied health care because of Covid they wanted to be safe and cared for too!

    The self righteous and selfishness Here continues to undermine the plight of normal Madeirans who are the only ones who will suffer because of the COvid restrictions and EU help will be too little too late.

    1. Exactly, waiting lists are already pathetically long, and will be even longer now. I need a hernia operation, but can expect to wait up to 3 years, and it took 9 months for hospital to contact me to see a doctor…???

I am a normal Madeirean, I want the economy to grow, I want the ones that visit us enjoy the experience but I don´t want the ones that visit us think that Madeira is a place where Covid does not exist, where rules do not apply, where they can do whatever they want or as they want as they did 8 month ago. No, Madeireans do not want Madeira to be that place and they will be more than happy that people don´t give importance to the pandemic choose other places to holiday.

      Tobi mentioned several times that testing and masks would destroy tourism. Unfortunately, it is rarely mentioned here what is happening in other tourist destinations. Take Canaries for instance. I just read that Canaries are negotiating with Tui to start…7 flights per week. Can you imagine the Canaries which has like 10 times the hotel beds in Madeira negotiating… 7 flights per week? Can you imagine that a huge operator like Jet2 cancelled ALL flights to the Canaries until November? They have like 45% of UCI beds occupied in the Canaries, deaths everyday and tourism…nill. They imposed wearing masks even beaches after Madeira did and only now they want to test tourists upon arrival. I´m sorry, but yes, we have to put things into perspective and look at other realities for comparison. And what is happening elsewhere is dramatic both from the economical, social and health point of view.

      2. I think there use to be something like 300 flights a day to the Canaries from the UK. All of Spain and the island are off the safe to travel list, so it’s just going to get worse there.

        1. It really looks like the red/orange/green lists are really randomly made. Spain is near a complete lockdown. How long does it take before the UK government hears about that if they are still on the green list. Incredible.

        2. O, sorry I mesread you, Tobi, you wrote they were OFF the green list. That reassures my because I really was wondering how on earth they could consideer spain and the canaries a safe place.

          I just read that the American ministry of foreign affairs considers Turkey to be a high-rist country nd advises against all but necessary travel though.

        3. That was my point Tobi. We had two completely different approaches between the two archipelagos from the beginning and now we know some results. I think it shows us that having no restrictions at all, like Canaries did at the beginning, was not the way forward. We cannot have the best of both worlds, you either create a freeway with no restrictions and a few weeks later you are counting the dead and closing everything again, or your try to manage and balance the situation and live with the reduced number of tourist and its impact in the economy. Madeira chose the later. And believe me, I have nothing against the Canaries, I have been holidaying there every 2 years in the last 30 years or so.

          But looking at how many hotels exist there, and seeing Jet2 and BA increasing flights in October/November to Madeira gives me the impression that although the impact is huge, it could still be a lot worse.

    3. Honestly. It is not often we can read such a self-centered comment. Yes, tourists WANT to do a lot of things in a relaxed and carefree way. But really, not just tourists want that. We all want a covid-free world but we dont have it. Selfishness you say? Really. You are one to talk.

    4. I don’t think I misunderstood the post, you basically said you weren’t really bothered about anybody’s health, you were going to have a good time and bugger the rest. Which is your choice. The one good thing is it seems you won’t be returning to Madeira so I won’t be bumping into you.

  24. We have had two holidays to Madeira cancelled this year, 1 week in June and out usual two weeks in August. Looked on Tui website for flights at Easter 2021 quoted prices of £524 per seat, we will not be flying with Tui at those prices.

  25. Have spent three weeks out of the last five in Madeira and have just booked for 10 days in Oct with Easyjet, Bristol. I have felt a lot safer being tested on arrival, wearing a mask where sensible, both to protect myself and the people of Madeira. The welcome is as warm as when I first came in 1968, the gratitude for returning humbling. I believe I am treated as a friend. Please enjoy your stay in Turkey, an odious country run by the Dictator, Erdogan and perhaps spare a thought for the Kurdish population, who are not treated with any respect but live in fear whilst you relax in the 30 degrees.

  27. I have recently returned to Uk following a lovely week in Funchal. This was my fourth visit. Travelled with Jet 2 from Stansted and very good flights. On arrival at Funchal airport found it to be so very organised. My husband and I took the Covid test at airport and went to our hotel. We received the text to say negative within 8 hours. We were then able to go out for dinner.
    We stayed in the Lido area which we enjoy and travelled to old town Funchal several times.

    We were made to feel very welcome by the locals and were glad to support the local economy during these difficult times

    We will return.

  28. Latest news (no NOT Donald and his wife are infected!): Kras travel company from Holland is been taking over by TUI. So from now on, if we want to book our favourite hotel in Madeira (Royal Orchid in Canico), first possibility to go there will by the end of march 2021, according to the TUI booking site.

  29. Well Tobi, is a good idea, although we always booked hotel, flight and car true Kras in one package. Don’t know whether it would be cheaper to do so and we would not have repatriation guarantee in that case. We really want to come to Madeira again, but still are bit careful.

  30. Hii, been reading all the comments with interest. We have booked our usual flights out to Madeira from MANCHESTER on January 11th 2021 with EasyJet. EasyJjet website shows NO flights between Nov 2020 – April 2021 from MANCHESTER.

    Also, TUI have NO holidays or flights from MANCHESTER over this coming winter. Can anyone shed any light on why MANCHESTER ?
