One of the only Pestana hotels which has stated open through most of the Pandemic in Madeira. Video filmed during 2020.

I’m sure many of you are praying to be back here or in any other hotels on the island.

  2. We can’t wait to get back to the island. Our summer 2020 stays at The Residence and The Cliff Bay were cancelled and re-arranged for March 2021. Now the March ones have been cancelled too. Still holding out hope for our summer 2021 holidays. We even have another stay booked for November 2021. Hope the island population is doing well and staying safe. See you soon (we hope).

    1. Stayed there November/December when the Promenade closed. Will go there again as soon as we are allowed to fly and wanted by Madeira

  6. Hi Tobi. Do you know if the Royal Savoy has reopened yet. It was being refurbished when we were with you in October. We are due to arrive 31st May – here’s hoping.

  8. It looks like most big hotels plan to reopen in March.
    I wonder what happened to all the employees, while the hotels had been closed. Have they been kept employed? Paid or unpaid? Getting social securities?

  11. Love this hotel. This is where we stay under the Options programme. Had our holiday cancelled in November and can’t wait to return.

  13. I remember staying there first time in 1971 for Xmas and New Year. There was still a road passing through where it’s now been extended down to the sea.

    You had to cross the road to acces the pool area and you walked down there though a flower garden. Today it looks like unholy rubbish, just to a built few extra rooms. It was a big pool area and as I remember with a 5 meter platform for high dives.

    1. Are you sure you didn’t stay at the old Savoy ? I stayed there, first visit in 68, one would make ones way out of the rear of the Savoy, cross the Rua da Imperia D Amelia, through the Savoy gardens, still there, then used the lift to the pools. I definitely remember the 5 Metre board, the first and only time I have dived off one. The large building in the corner of the Savoy gardens was a bar, part of the Savoy. The building which contains the Indian Restaurant hadn’t been built.

  14. We should have arrived yesterday to stay at the Savoy Palace as the Royal Savoy remains closed. 3rd cancelled trip since our visit this time last year and another one at the end of April also unlikely to go ahead. Fingers crossed for October.

  15. In the current furlough scheme workers get paid 33% of their salary by social security and 33% by the employer which makes 66% of the salary. Obviously the furlough scheme does lot last indefinetely…
