Flights diverted to Porto Santo

Both flights the easyJet from Gatwick and the Luthhansa from Frankfurt have landed in Porto Santo.

No I guess its a wait to see if the wind conditions improve in the next hour or so.

I heard or read somewhere that UK flights they won’t let them off in Porto Santo due to the not being in Europe, does anyone know if this is true, as they could be offered the ferry over.?

  2. Hi Toby. Just seen the flights on our cycle ride here in Porto Santo. They ferried people over from here last week so can’t think the Gatwick flight will be any different today. It’s gusty here too and helicopter rather than plane has been used for hospital transfer by the looks of it.

    1. Someone said they can’t let the British off as they can’t handle non European flights with all the paperwork, but I don’t know if this is true, or if just something that’s been said. I know they ferry people in the week but not sure if they were UK flights.

    2. Bear in mind there is no point in letting people disembark if there’s no ferry to take them to Funchal. Also, one off, all off,as all luggage would have to be taken off the aircraft.

  3. U.K. holiday flights are landing in Porto Santo so I assume that info is wrong.

    1. Oh yes that’s true Pat, but maybe they have all the paperwork as it’s a package holiday. Still waiting to see if the flight comes,

  4. I read passengers on Jet2 Friday flight from Glasgow were not allowed off plane in Porto Santo because of the EU regulations business. Plane returned to Glasgow and took off again on Saturday when it landed in Funchal. No word of how this affected people who had not been vaccinated and required new PCR tests…. or where they stayed overnight in Glasgow. It is a mess!

  5. There should be a team large enough to handle the admin on Porto Santo when it is possible for passengers to use the ferry. How many are needed to check 200 passports and vaccine certificates, as most of the passengers would be double vaccinated. Any passengers not vaccinated or tested prior to flying would be returned to the UK. Another reason for pre flight testing.

  6. PASSENGERS on a flight from Glasgow to Madeira spent nearly 12 hours on board the plane as high winds prevented it from landing at its destination, while Brexit regulations stopped them disembarking at an alternative location, according to one traveller.

    The Jet2 flight circled above the Portuguese island for about an hour due to weather conditions, before diverting to nearby island Porto Santo.

    Upon landing, passengers asked if they could get off the plane there and head to Madeira by boat, with the plane set to refuel and return to Scotland.

    1. Imagine you are one of the passengers sitting on that aircraft, you don’t know the ferry timings, you don’t know the covid requirements, you don’t know the cost of the ferry or how to get to the ferry port and you are one of possibly 200 passengers, all of whose luggage will have to be unloaded, many who will not want to use the ferry. What ever the airline do they will be in the wrong.

  8. The Jet2 flight must have been a one off scenario, as you can fly to Porto Santo with Tui from England.
