Thousands of people watched the fireworks show in Madeira yesterday.
The fire was launched from 58 posts located in the Funchal amphitheater and from five posts on ships in the bay.
Before the fireworks show, four Red Bull Sky Dive Team skydivers, from Austria, Spain and Germany, surprised people by jumping over the city of Funchal.
The team took off from Porto Santo in a Portuguese Air Force plane and was dropped off at around 23:40, from an altitude of 8,000 feet (about 2,400 meters).
The paratroopers flew about three minutes, first in free fall and then soaring in their ‘wingsuits’ (special suits) and surprised the audience with lights and pyrotechnic devices that simulated a ‘star shower’, landing near the harbor from Funchal.
