The demonstration against the project to build a cable car system between Curral das Freiras and Jardim da Serra brought together around two dozen people this Friday morning, at Miradouro da Eira do Serrado.
Under the motto ‘It is still possible to save the Paredão geosite and the magnificent natural landscape of Curral das Freiras/Jardim da Serra”, the group of citizens said they were present at the challenge, despite the cold and rain, to express “their commitment to the defense from nature”.
“In this action we want to express our intention to do everything within the reach of our rights of civic participation, so that the cable car system intended by the government for Curral das Freiras and Jardim da Serra does not go ahead”, transmitted the group spokesman, David Francisco.
‘Leave the sky of Curral das Freiras alone’, ‘Save the Paredão’ and ‘No cable car’, are the banners displayed by the protesters at the Eira do Serrado viewpoint.
“On our part, we will do everything to prevent another white elephant from the regime resulting in yet another looting of the public treasury”, reads the manifesto presented by the group. (Very well said)
The movement has doubts that geological safety is guaranteed with the installation of the cable car system that crosses the deep valley of Curral das Freiras through a cable that “weighs 500 tons”, as David Francisco said in the printed edition of DIÁRIO this Friday .
The group of citizens promised to return to the protest on the other side of the valley. “Today we are on the side of Curral das Freiras, in a few days we will be on the side of Jardim da Serra to give voice to the public protest and to save, while there is still time, nature, the natural landscape and ecological values, which must, always , overlap in development guidelines”.
