Albuquerque will have been made a defendant

Several national media outlets are reporting that the president of the Regional Government has been made a defendant, as part of the operation that has been taking place in Funchal, since early in the morning and that he has already made three arrests, including the president of the Chamber of Funchal, who is waiting to be transferred to Lisbon at the Funchal Prison. 

Miguel Albuquerque, in statements to journalists, assured that he would not resign if he were accused.

Research linked to the Autonomous Region of Madeira focuses, above all, on the area of ​​public procurement, “essentially on the high number of construction contracts concluded by the Regional Government of Madeira and various public entities with companies in the region”, with “several dozens of awards in public tenders involving at least several hundred million euros”.

As part of three investigations led by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) of the DCIAP, search efforts are being carried out to identify and seize documents and other means of evidence of interest for the investigation of suspected crimes, the judicial body said in a press release .
