IPMA issues orange warning for Eastern and Central groups of the Azores due to the Hipolito depression

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) today placed the Eastern and Central groups of the Azores under an orange warning and issued a yellow warning for the entire archipelago due to the formation of the Hipolito depression.

However, as he made a point of mentioning, “the frontal system associated with the aforementioned depression, which is associated with an air mass with a high water content, will condition the weather in the Madeira archipelago and on the continent at the end of the week” .

This weekend, from Friday the forecast is for heavy rain, gusts of up to 80km/h and waves of up to six meters for the Region.

According to IPMA, “an intensification of the wind, especially in the highlands, is expected for the Madeira archipelago, from the end of the 10th, Wednesday, and precipitation from the 12th”.

On the continent, the effects of the frontal system associated with the Hipolito depression will be felt from the 13th, with the intensification of the wind, mainly on the west coast and in the highlands, and the return of precipitation”.

The temporal distance, as well as the trajectory of the frontal system associated with the depression, influence the uncertainty associated with the forecast for the end of the week, which is why the IPMA “recommends monitoring the meteorological situation”.
