Previous maximum, 25.5 ºC recorded in 1982, was exceeded at 11:10 (25.8 ºC).
When there were still more than two hours left to reach solar noon (13:20), the air temperature in the city of Funchal reached a record value ever recorded in the month of January in the capital of Madeira. The thermometer at the Funchal Meteorological Observatory registered a value of 25.8 ºC at 11:10. Temperature that promises to continue rising in the coming hours – at 11:30 it reached 26.2 ºC -, but since then it has dethroned the previous record for the highest maximum temperature ever recorded in Funchal/Observatório in the first month of the year, by surpassing the 25.5 ºC, extreme maximum temperature that has persisted for more than 40 years, more precisely, since 1982.
The absolute record for the maximum temperature ever recorded in January in the Region by IPMA is 27.3 ºC, a value recorded this Wednesday in Porto Moniz.
