Ventura argues that Albuquerque should leave the Madeira executive “as quickly as possible

The leader of Chega, who was speaking to journalists at a press conference at Chega/Açores headquarters, in Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel, justified the departure of the president of the Madeiran executive “so that the process of choosing a successor is not contaminated” by interests.

“Because any successor chosen in this context, by them, will always be a chosen one contaminated by the same web, by the same process, by the same collusion of interests that are under suspicion”, he stated.

In his opinion, “a certain sanitization of the dominant political class in Madeira has been justified for a long time, for many decades”.

“And I regret that there are parties that are only concerned with their place in parliament and do not understand that it is necessary to give the voice back to the people”, he said.

André Ventura also said that “every additional minute spent by Miguel Albuquerque is one minute less for the prestige of Madeira’s institutions and the prestige of democracy”.

He recalled that Chega said “from the beginning” of the process “that it was important that Miguel Albuquerque left”.

“Miguel Albuquerque is trying, with the collusion of the PSD, and that is what is intolerable, to hold on to the position as much as possible. And if it’s not the place, it’s your power within the PSD. We all understand that if Albuquerque leaves the position of president of the Regional Government, but if he remains president of the PSD/Madeira, it is he who will actually determine who is the next president of the Regional Government,” he stated.

In his opinion, a future President of the Government, “which is an indication of this PSD/Madeira, will be nothing more than a puppet in the hands” of the PSD Regional Political Commission.
