Carnival parades liven up Porto Santo and several municipalities in Madeira

Hope everyone enjoyed the Carnival Parade last night, if you were able to go. For this Sunday Carnival continues. 

Porto Santo and several municipalities in Madeira receive, this Sunday, the usual Carnival Parades.

Machico

The center of Machico hosts the usual Carnival Parade. The start of the parade is scheduled for 3pm and will feature more than 700 revelers, spread across seven troupes. The initiative promoted by Machico City Council will feature local groups and others from outside. Among the guests, Geringonça, Fitness Team and Malta do Furor stand out. Now, among the ‘silver of the house’, are the groups from the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Machico, the Centro Cívico Cultural e Social da Ribeira Seca, the Cento de Dia de Água de Pena and the Escola Básica com Pre- and Escolar and Creche do Porto da Cruz. The route will start, as usual, at Rua Dom Tolentino Mendonça, passing through Rua dos Milagres to the access bridge to Rua da Árvore, going down to Rua do Ribeirinho and ending at Largo da Praça.

Porto Santo

Porto Santo hosts the traditional Parade Trapalhão. The initiative promoted by the local authority will feature two well-known troupes in Madeira – Animad and Geringonça, who will parade through the city’s streets, entertaining spectators and inviting everyone to join in Praça do Barqueiro. Afterwards, the party will continue with a performance by Madeiran singer Cristina Barbosa, in a tribute to Ivete Sangalo.

Santa Cruz 

Casa do Povo de Santa Cruz organizes, at 5:00 p.m., the Carnival Parade, with the support of the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Environment, Regional Secretary for Inclusion and Youth, Santa Cruz City Council, Santa Cruz Parish Council and the Madeira beer. The parade will feature around 600 revelers, distributed among 7 troupes, coming from schools, institutions and associations in the region, namely Professional Dance Group – Sweetdancers, Associação de Animação Geringonça, Fitness Team, Associação Recreativa da Achada de Gaula – Malta do Furor and Nogueira Community Center. The parade will be concentrated on Rua Bela de São José, next to Casa da Cultura, passing through Rua do Ribeirinho, Rua da Praia, Rua Nova de São Fernando, Rua 17 de Junho and ending at Praça Dr. João Abel de Freitas.

Câmara de Lobos 

The satire ‘takes to the streets’ in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, with the Trapalhão do Estreito Carnival, which is scheduled for 4pm. The parade is organized by the local Parish Council, with the support of the municipality.

Ponta do Sol

The procession in the municipality of Ponta do Sol is scheduled for 4pm, on Avenida 1.º de Maio, with more than 500 revelers expected to be present. The parade, organized by the local authority, will feature the participation of six troupes from the municipality, groups that designed and built their costumes and floats, from the invited extra-competition troupe, called Associação de Batucada da Madeira. After the procession there will be more moments of musical entertainment, on the stage set up on Avenida 1.º de Maio, with DJ Oxy.

Ribeira Brava

Casa do Povo do Campanário marks Carnival by holding another Trapalhão Parade, which will take place from 3pm. There will also be entertainment on stage, next to the parish’s Civic Center, with performances by 4Litro, the Cool Night Band and the Ribeira Brava Municipal Band. There will be no shortage of traditional food and drink stalls. The organization of this event, which has the support and partnerships of the Ribeira Brava City Council, the Campanário Parish Council and the Regional Government, will offer malassadas to all masked people who participate in the procession and the event.

Porto Moniz

Carnival parade takes place, starting at 3:30 pm, and will feature several troupes, in addition to guests, such as ‘Os Cariocas’ and Palco D’emoções, with a total of 540 participants. As for special appearances and stage entertainment, highlights include the Madeira Batucada Association and the Santo António Philharmonic Band. There are prizes for the best. Organized by the municipality, the procession begins at Porto de Abrigo and ends at Frente-Mar.

Calheta

There is a Carnival parade in Loreto, at Arco da Calheta, from 3pm. The entertainment is in charge of DJ Sérgio Soares and Banda Às Riscas. There are prizes for the best.

Saint Vincent

The Casa do Povo da Boaventura hall hosts a Carnival ball, starting at 9 pm.
