Diogo Ribeiro world champion in the 50 meter butterfly

Portuguese Diogo Ribeiro today became world champion in the 50 meter butterfly at the Aquatic World Championships, winning his second medal in the discipline.

In Doha, Diogo Ribeiro swam the distance in 22.97 seconds, ahead of the North American Michael Andrew (23.07) and the Australian Cameron McEvoy (23.08).

In 2023, in Fukuoka, Japan, Diogo Ribeiro had given Portugal its first medal in World Swimming Championships, by finishing second in the 50-meter butterfly final, becoming the first Portuguese person this year to reach two finals.
