Two young people arrested with drugs in Indonesia are from Madeira

The news just coming in, indicates that two young Portuguese men were arrested with drugs in Indonesia. At the end of the day, RTP said that the young people were from Madeira and were intercepted with two kilos of cocaine.

The news was initially reported by SIC, on Wednesday morning, which said that the arrests took place on Sunday and that they were due to drug trafficking, a crime that, in Indonesia, is punishable by the death penalty, with the Ministry of Business Portuguese foreigners are monitoring the situation and preparing a prison visit in Jakarta, a ministry source confirmed to Lusa.

The young people must have taken the drugs from Lisbon via Dubai to Jakarta, the country where the drugs were intercepted by the authorities. The recipient would also be a young man from Madeira who was already in Indonesia.

The penal framework in this country is very heavy and now the young people are in prison awaiting trial, and the Portuguese Government has the task of asking the local authorities, and specifically the President of Indonesia, for clemency for these two young people.
