“We are facing a situation in which the cliffs are not cleaned because of political wars between the PSD and the PS. These two parties are playing politics and are not interested in people’s well-being. They only come here to seek votes, but they don’t act when necessary.” The statement was made by Chega deputy Celestino Sebastião, who, today, visited the Madalena do Mar neighborhood, close to the place where a landslide took place.
People “are not receiving the due support and monitoring they so desperately need from the authorities”, stated the Chega parliamentarian. Celestino Sebastião believes that politics must be above partisan interests, as the fundamental thing is to help people have a better and more dignified life: “Politics is not done for power, but for those who need it most. In this case, saying that people should go to their family’s house is a shame and not a solution. The government and the chamber have to understand each other and not engage in little wars that only harm the population.”
The landslide occurred yesterday evening at Passo do Mar, in Madalena do Mar, close to several houses.
The fall of stones and earth did not cause any injuries but mobilized the Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol Firefighters and the Public Security Police to the scene.
