Agreement between PSD and CDS formalized in the next few days.
PSD and CDS will formalize, in the coming days, an agreement to make a Regional Government viable and which includes the candidacy of José Manuel Rodrigues, leader of the CDS, for president of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira.
The agreement was practically agreed at the meeting that took place at Quinta Vigia this morning and should be presented to the structures of both parties.
After clarification of Chega’s position that it will not make a PSD government unfeasible, the almost certain abstention of the IL deputy and the opening of the PAN to dialogue with the PSD, all the conditions will be met for the approval of the Government Program.
PS and JPP signed an agreement in principle that implies the non-feasibility of a PSD government, but together they only have 20 votes. PSD and CDS total 21, so the abstention of the remaining political forces, Chega, IL and PAN, will be enough for the confidence motion to pass. Unlike motions of censure, which require a qualified majority – a majority of deputies exercising their functions, in this case 24 – motions of confidence only require a majority of votes.
The election of José Manuel Rodrigues as president of parliament, a position he has held since 2019, will also be guaranteed, probably with broad support.
The Representative of the Republic is listening, today, to the parties that achieved parliamentary representation and at the end of the day he should issue a statement.
